Founded in 1924; moved to current magnificent site in 1957. Two subsequent extensions resulted in state-of-the-art facilities: 10 laboratories, two art rooms with pottery and photographic facilities, six computer rooms, with open access to internet, modern library, lecture theatre, assembly hall, sports hall, and weight-training room. Spacious grounds include three rugby pitches, three cricket squares, two all-weather hockey pitches, five tennis courts and athletics facilities. Winner of Best-kept School Award in 2005 and 2006; runner-up in 2001 and 2004. Runner-up in BECTA award for ICT innovation (2005). Extra-curricular activities include Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme; orienteering, and musical and drama productions described as 'particularly strong'.
